Asheville Greenways and Greenway Commission
- Did you know that the Greenway Commission is hoping to create a continuous network of on- and off-road greenways that would connect North, South, East, West, and Central Asheville!  This is a great website, packed with lots of information about the value of greenways, and what the proposed greenways system in Asheville would look like.

Asheville Pedestrian and Bicycle Program - get your "share the road" bumper magnet here, as well as lots of other great information about transportation alternatives in and around Asheville.

Asheville Rail Service - Imagine being able to take a train directly out of Asheville that links up with rail service in the Piedmont!  You could sit back, read a book , look at the scenery, or just take a nap, while being transported quickly to your destination - no more traffic hassles or long awful drives to the Piedmont. Let someone else do the driving!

Blue Ridge Bicycle Club - The mission of the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club is to bring together a community of mountain and road cyclists, who work together to provide opportunities for safer and more enjoyable recreational cycling in Western North Carolina. They strive to improve public awareness of cycling by serving our communities through educational activities, advocacy of cycling causes, and maintenance on road bike pathways and mountain bike trails.

Buncombe County Medical Society - The Buncombe County Medical Society's paramount concern throughout its 114 years of operation has been the availability of quality medical care and services to the people of Buncombe County.

Clean Air Campaign - This regional campaign is focused on educating the public about air pollution and actions everyone can take to improve air quality in Asheville, NC and the surrounding region.

Clean Air Conservancy - The Clean Air conservancy is a non-profit dedicated to retiring pollution allowances from circulation. To date they have retired over 3,000,000 pounds of Sulfur Dioxide and 6,500,000 pounds of nitrogen oxides. Their site contains information about resources on air pollution research, policy, and advocacy, and links to a variety of other organizations and resources dealing with air pollution.

Energy Star page about compact fluorescent lightbulbs - If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road.

North Carolina Air Awareness Program - The North Carolina Air Awareness Program is a public outreach and education program of the North Carolina Division of Air Quality. The goal of the program is to reduce air pollution though voluntary actions by individuals and organizations. The program seeks to educate individuals about (1) the sources of air pollution; (2) the health effects of air pollution and how these effects can be mitigated by modification of outdoor activities on ozone action days; and (3) simple "action tips", such as carpooling, vehicle maintenance, and energy conservation, that reduce individual contributions to air pollution.

North Carolina Department of Transportation Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation - The Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation (DBPT) is a comprehensive operation, touching all aspects of bicycling and walking; whether designing facilities, creating safety programs, mapping cross-state bicycle routes, training teachers, sponsoring workshops and conferences, fostering multi-modal planning or integrating bicycling and walking into the ongoing activities of the Department of Transportation.

North Carolina Division of Air Quality Smoking Vehicle Complaint Form - Register your complaint online - it's easy!  If you notice that any gasoline-powered motor vehicle registered in North Carolina is emitting visible air contaminants for longer than five consecutive seconds, then please register a complaint!  We'll all breathe easier.  There are laws for diesel powered vehicles too - visit the website to find out more.

North Carolina Ozone Forecast Center - The NC Division of Air Quality issues a next day ground-level ozone forecast everyday from May 1st through September 30th that consists of a color-coded forecast and a corresponding Air Quality Index (AQI) number. The color code and AQI value provided in the forecast equates to the maximum 8-hour ozone concentration that is anticipated for that area. This information is distributed via email, fax, media outlets, and the North Carolina Ozone Forecast Center web site. The dissemination of a ground-level ozone forecast information allows citizens not only to make wise decisions regarding their health and outdoor activity levels, but also to take action to reduce ozone-forming emissions.

United States EPA Office of Air and Radiation - The Office of Air and Radiation (OAR) develops national programs, technical policies, and regulations for controlling air pollution and radiation exposure. OAR is concerned with energy conservation and pollution prevention, indoor and outdoor air quality, industrial air pollution, pollution from vehicles and engines, radon, acid rain, stratospheric ozone depletion, and radiation protection.

Southern Energy & Environment Expo - The Southern Energy & Environment Expo is an annual event designed to showcase renewable energy and sustainable economics in a context of responsible environmental stewardship. By working together in a cooperative spirit, we CAN make a difference for the future of our children and our planet.

Western North Carolina Air Quality Control Agency - The Western North Carolina Regional Air Quality Agency's Mission is to protect and monitor the area's air quality to safeguard the public health, safety, and to protect the environment.
