  Air Pollution Solution Contest

Air Pollution Solution Contest

Up to SEVEN $1,000 Scholarships will be awarded to winning projects from seniors in Buncombe County, one in Henderson County, and one in Madison County!

The Air Pollution Solution Contest rewards students for: researching an air pollution problem, investigating solutions to that problem, and creating an education tool. Projects are due January 4, 2008. For more information contact: Keith Bamberger, 828-296-4500 or keith.bamberger@ncmail.net.

Requirements

Research Paper

The paper must clearly describe an air quality issue and investigate solutions to the crisis. (five to seven pages):

  • A research project that clearly investigates an area of air pollution.
  • A hypothesis stating expected findings.
  • Provide clear explanation of an air quality issue.
  • Demonstrate scientific understanding of the issue, including a sense of perspective.
  • Identify sources of the problem.
  • Identify current efforts to address the problem (i.e. solutions) (students need not create solutions, but do a critical analysis of a solution that is existing or being considered).
  • Make recommendations, including detailed steps for carrying out solution, for local effort to address the problem.

Community Education Tool

The Community Education Tool is expected to be a high quality product that could be use in air quality education today. It needs to echo the paper in its description of the problem, expected findings, and potential solutions.

Here are some of educational tool possibilities, let us know if you want to do something else:
