Fred Dickey
“Bright Idea” Fund will
support annual scholarships for high school students in Western North
Carolina through the Clean Air Community Trust’s Air Pollution Solution
Scholarship Contest. The fund also supports the “Bright Idea” program,
which promotes the use of energy efficient, compact fluorescent lamps as
a fundraising initiative for schools and community non-profits. This
fund has been established in memory of Frederick A. Dickey who devoted
his career to the advancement and application of lighting technologies,
energy efficiency, and its many benefits.

An electrical
lighting engineer, Fred Dickey held a long, distinguished career with
General Electric. After his retirement in 2000, he worked with Major
League Baseball as a lighting and field consultant and volunteered with
Waste Reduction Partners in Asheville. He was a past member of Jaycees
and a member of the Fletcher Planning Board. This fund has been
established to ensure that Fred Dickey's passions live on and reflect in
some small way the bright light he represented in his community.
